parent & team starter
When my son was in year 3 he announced he would like to play competitive football. He had little competitive experience and so trialing for a team was not an option. With the help of a neighbour (who has a Sandridge Rovers team), I decided to set up a team myself with likeminded parents and children and have not looked back.
The team filled up quickly with lots of his classmates, who were in a similar situation and could not find a team to join. A couple of the dads train the boys each week and other parents help run the line and set up on match days. Although I set it up many parents help on the sidelines which makes it a real community on a Saturday morning and Wednesday training.
We are now into our into our 5th year at Sandridge Rovers having started at u9’s. We still have many of the original players in the team and a few newbies joined over the years.
We have developed lots as a team and are now winning matches in our league. We have seen the boys grow from strength the strength over the years and watching their confidence grow makes it all worth while.
If you are looking for a friendly club this ticks all the boxes for us. My son has gained so much from being part of Sandridge Rovers and we hope to spend many more years there.
